If just hearing the name ‘Ladakh’ fills you with wonder, wait until you discover the breathtaking beauty of Changthang Valley. And hidden within this vast, high-altitude expanse lies a true gem, Puga Valley.
Tucked away in southeastern Ladakh, Puga Valley is a place of striking natural beauty and rare geothermal wonders. With steaming hot springs, bubbling mud pools, and deposits of sulfur and borax, this offbeat destination isn’t just a feast for the eyes – it’s a hotspot for exploration and discovery.
Why is Puga Valley worth visiting?
Spanning a breathtaking 30 kilometers, the valley is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, who get to drive through its picturesque expanse, gazing in awe at the snow-capped mountains, lush trees, scattered boulders, and intriguing salt deposits. It’s the perfect time to explore and immerse yourself in the captivating beauty of Puga Valley.
Things to know before you travel to Puga Valley in Ladakh
Permits: Make sure to obtain the necessary permits for Puga Valley before traveling, as it comes under the restricted areas in Ladakh.
Altitude precautions: Puga Valley is situated at a high altitude, so acclimatize yourself in Leh before embarking on your journey.
Respect the environment: As you explore this pristine region, ensure that you follow responsible tourism practices and leave no trace behind.
No network zone: Due to its remote location, mobile and internet connectivity in Puga Valley is quite difficult. However, some mobile operators, such as Airtel and BSNL do provide postpaid connections for this location, which you can use to stay in touch with family and friends.
While I’ve already been to Ladakh and explored some of the most picturesque places there, I’m yet to traverse through the lush greens of Puga Valley. Needless to say, I’m definitely adding this to my travel bucketlist.
